THREE JUANA

An interview with the three empowered Biguena COVID-19 Pandemic was conducted to showcase their positive visions and contributions. These women were chosen to share the challenges they had faced during the pandemic.

The first Biguena that was interviewed is Ms. Doris P. Singson. She is a frontliner and working as a Commission on Audit (COA) Auditor in Ilocos Sur. She is 46 years old and hailed in Ayusan Norte, Vigan City, Ilocos Sur. She was asked if what are the challenges she had faced in the discharge of her duties as frontliner during the pandemic. Her answer was “ During the pandemic, our work in the Commission had greatly affected. Our audit reports were all delayed in submission because our audited agencies can not submit on time their documents and reports for our audit. Also, some of my auditees were affected by the virus that caused frequent lockdowns of their offices. Despite of this scenario, I was able to strategize my audit work through on line or virtual  communication and conferences with them. With this strategy, I was able to discharge my duties as a state auditor and government servant.” She confidently answered the question and truly she is a Biguena to be proud of.

The second Biguena that was interviewed is Dra. Glenda P. Rabino. She is a frontliner and working as a resident Obstetrician in Northside Doctors Hospial. She is 45 years old and hailed in Ayusan Norte, Vigan City, Ilocos Sur. The same question was being asked to her. Her answer was “ It was a great challenge to me as a doctor because my patients who are pregnant have to undergo strict health protocols in the hospital during their consultation and mostly in giving birth. I always advise my patients to limit their movements specially in going out because they belong to vulnerable persons. I am thankful that they my advise and they are very cooperative too.” She answered promptly and really she is a Biguena to be proud of.

The third Biguena that was interviewed was Ms. Mary Grace Cortez. She is a frontliner and working as a store owner/manager of pet supplies. She is 60 years old and hailed in Ayusan Norte, Vigan City, Ilocos Sur. The same question is being asked to her. Her answer was “ Being a store owner and manager of a pet supplies, it was very challenging during pandemic because I can not provide all the necessary supplies and needs of all the pets because of delayed deliveries of products from suppliers. I had to adjust and strategize in ordering and selling so that I can still cope up with the effects of the pandemic. I always explain to the customers that because of the pandemic the availability of the products to sell is greatly affected. I offer them alternative products to use and explain to them the similarities and differences between the products.” She answered honestly and indeed she is a Biguena to be really proud of.

After the interview, the realization of how the Biguenas stood and coped up with the challenges as frontliners during these hard times is really a conclusion that they are the “ Juanas” who deserved to be honored because they are the empowered women  whose service became an inspiration to everybody.
